"He asistido a mi propio crujido, a mi cierta
reinvención, con eco del pasado pero retumba
en una sima diferente, fruto de la inspiración,
de un encuentro fortuito con mi hada madrina,
de la ingesta de yogures fermentados, quién
sabe. He viajado por casi todos los lados de la
luna, pero al final de ese viaje mi equipaje ya
no fue el mismo nunca más, mis huellas
pararon en algún sitio que no llego a recordar
con seguridad, pero me sentía sano y salvo.
Me vi como un crooner imposible, porque siempre
me he hecho un poco el tonto o me paso de listo.
O a lo mejor de eso se trata.
SAFE AND SOUND se grabó durante el mes
de abril de 2008 en el estudio de Paco Loco. Grabamos
y mezclamos en cintas analógicas, y la
verdad es que tocamos todo lo que estaba a nuestro
alrededor menos una guitarra midi que nos daba
mucho miedín. Yo fundamentalmente toco
el piano, la guitarra acústica y algunas
eléctricas, y teclados: Rhodes, Hammond,
Harmonium. Aparte de cantar, claro.
PL toca la batería, algunos bajos, algunas
guitarras eléctricas…Aparte de la
producción del disco, claro. The Guinea
Pig grabó el bajo barítono y el
clásico en muchas canciones, e hizo gárgaras
en momentos especiales. Y Muni Camón también
aporta al disco significativos coros magnéticos.
Incluso pasó por aquí la sección
de viento, "trompeta y trombón crepusculares"
puedo escribir sin miedo a pasarme de rosca, porque
de eso se trataba, de bailar al atardecer. Más
las apariciones celestes de Micha, el musicólogo
holandés responsable de algunos órganos
agudos del disco, y del sintetizador ameba, comunmente
denominado Omnichord. Y Maxwell Smith, multi-instrumentista
británico militante en setecientas bandas
de rock, que aquí toca ante todo el rhodes
y alguna percusión de máxima seguridad.
Así, empecé la grabación
de SAFE AND SOUND con unas 30 canciones en mi
cabeza, que conseguí concretar en la mitad
aproximadamente, las que componen el álbum
y el single-ep, en una idea global que se retroalimenta
en cierto modo de la misma manera que mi mente
calenturienta casa fenómenos que me hacen
absurdamente feliz: tormenta tropical y respirar
hondo, pollo cuitlacoche y cerveza, gatos y piñas,
esas pequeñas cosas que me hacen sentir
que estoy sano y salvo". (R.)

"I have attended to my own crunch, to my
kind of reinvention, with echo from the past but
booms in a different abyss, result of the inspiration,
of a chance meeting with my fairy godmother, of
the ingestion of fermented yogurts, who knows.
I have traveled all around most sides of the moon,
but at the end of that trip my luggage was not
exactly the same anymore, my footprints stopped
somewhere I can’t figure out precisely,
but I felt safe and sound. I saw myself as an
impossible crooner, because I use to play dumb
or I’m to clever by half. Or maybe that’s
all about.
SAFE AND SOUND was recorded in April 2008, produced
by Paco Loco. We recorded and mixed everything
on reels, and actually we played every instrument
we could find but a midi guitar that frightened
us a lot. I play piano, acoustic guitar, some
electric guitar and keyboards: rhodes, hammond,
harmonium... besides the singing, of course.
PL plays drums, some bass, some electric guitars...
besides the producing, of course. The Guinea Pig
played the baritone and the classical bass and
sang with his gargle throat on many songs, and
Muni Camón did magnetic vocals too.
Wind section also passed this way, "twilight
trumpet and trombone", can say because I'm
not scared of going too far, it is about that,
dancing in the dusk. And the appearances of Micha,
the Dutch musicologist who plays some high-pitched
organs in the album, and the amoeba synthesizer,
ordinary called Omnichord. And Maxwell Smith -when
we are beside ourselves we call him Maxwell Smart-,
a British multi-instrumentalist that have played
with seven hundred rock bands, here he plays rhodes
and some high security percussion.
So, I began the recording of SAFE AND SOUND with
30 songs on my mind, and finally got to 15, the
album and the single-ep. Songs that feedback each
other the way I associate things that make me
foolishly happy: tropical storm and breathe deeply,
cuitlacoche chicken and beer, cats and pineapples,
those little things that make me feel safe and
sound". (R.)
